Resin Bound
Aftercare & Cleaning.

Care for your Prestige resin bound driveway so it still looks finished a decade from now.

Immediately After Install

The first 72 hours.

How the surface is treated in the first three days sets the long-term finish. These three points are the easiest way to protect a fresh install.

01

Curing time

Do not walk on your new resin bound surface for 24–48 hours, and do not drive on it for 48–72 hours after installation. These times are temperature dependent — always follow the on-site advice from your Prestige installer for exact timings.

02

No leaks or drips

Make sure there are no leaks or drips on the curing resin. Excess moisture significantly weakens and discolours resin bound surfaces during the curing period, and continuous drips cause erosion in the long term.

03

Footprints

Footprints cannot be removed once set. Keep people and animals off the surface until cured — we recommend taping or barriering the perimeter and using deterrents for pets.

Ongoing Care

Five points worth remembering.

Most callbacks we make on a resin driveway come down to one of the same handful of issues. Keep these five in mind and the surface will outlast everything around it.

01

Static wheel & small turning circles

Pressure from static turning can dislodge surface aggregates. Once the matrix is broken, the surface will weaken and break away. Avoid turning vehicle wheels when stationary or moving very slowly, and design driveways to eliminate tight turning circles.

02

Impact damage & high point loads

Take care not to drop heavy equipment such as skips onto the driveway — skips can also leach rust onto the surface that may not clean off. Car jacks can depress the surface and should always be placed on a wooden board for load distribution.

03

Chemicals & staining

Petrol, solvents, and aggressive chemicals should not come into contact with the resin surface. If a spillage happens, dilute and clean immediately. Solvents will degrade the resin binder over time, loosening stones.

04

Leaching & discolouration

Like all paving surfaces, resin bound will discolour where covered long term by a flat-bottomed object — flat plant pots, storage boxes, mats. Use raised pots and avoid leaving items sitting on the surface for extended periods.

05

Rejuvenating your surface

A great way to extend the life of your driveway is to seal the surface after a deep clean using a diluted polyurethane UV resin sealer. A good time to do this is 2–4 years after installation. Contact Prestige Paving for the right product and method.

Cleaning Guide

Keeping it looking finished.

A short reference for the most common cleaning jobs. Whenever in doubt, a quick call to Prestige is the safest first step before reaching for a chemical.

General cleaning practices

Regular cleaning keeps the surface looking fresh — and lighter colour blends benefit from cleaning more often.

Resin bound surfaces can be power washed. Hold the lance at a 90° angle and at least 300 mm from the surface. Cleaning too close can dislodge aggregates.

Oil, dirt & detritus

Oil can penetrate hard surfacing materials, particularly lubricating or fuel oil. Remove spillages promptly with an absorbent material to prevent staining.

If a stain persists, an emulsifying degreaser should be used. Avoid prolonged contact with any solvents — contact Prestige Paving for advice if you cannot remove a stain.

Rust & tyre marks

Rusting typically comes from leaching by BBQs, hanging baskets, or other metal garden items. Take care that these do not sit directly on the resin.

Naturally occurring aggregates can contain trace pyrite which, on rare occasions, can rust on exposure to rain or dew. Either source can be cleaned using a non-acidic rust stain remover — follow the manufacturer instructions.

Tyre marks can normally be removed by steam cleaning, or by scrubbing the area with detergent and hot water.

Weeds, moss & lichen

A permeable membrane beneath the base prevents weeds growing through from below — every Prestige install includes one. Weeds can still occasionally root in the surface itself; jet washing removes them easily.

Moss, lichen, and algae can appear in heavily shaded areas or under trees. Treat with the appropriate proprietary moss/algae product per manufacturer instructions.

Fruit, berries & leaves

Fruit and leaves stain all paving surfaces — clear them off the resin before they have a chance to leach.

For soiled areas, mix 1.5 L of liquid sodium hypochlorite (from swimming pool maintenance suppliers) with 4.5 L of water and 100 ml of non-oxidising shampoo (e.g. baby shampoo). Apply via pump spray across the whole area, not just spots.

Pre-wet the area with clean water, spray the cleaning fluid, and gently scrub with a stiff bristle brush. After 15 minutes, rinse with clean water — make sure runoff doesn’t reach vegetation.
